5. What is your process like making a new art piece?
With realistic portraits it’s pretty straight forward, I study a reference image and work off that.
When it comes to original work, it’s way more loose and very little is planned. I might do a sketch, but usually I like to just throw colors at the canvas and carve something out of the chaos; these tend to go in many different directions as I experiment with different ideas that come to me while I work.
6. Which is your favorite art piece you have made and why?
It’s a hard choice, there are so many that I like for different reasons.
I would have to go with the fanart I did of a character called Ling Xiaoyu. I remember this being a huge step up for me and very ambitious since I hadn’t drawn anything of that caliber before. As a result, it took me a really long time to work through it and was massively challenging and frustrating at times. Yet in the end, I’m super proud of the result and look back on that struggle fondly. I learned a lot from that one piece.
